IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT WEDAY 2023

We are proud to announce our 11th consecutive annual WE DAY KY. This year, WE DAY KY will be on Wednesday, April 19^th and instead of celebrating in person, we’re providing the resources so your students can make a huge WE DAY impact without leaving your school. Our goal is to register 100+ schools across Kentucky that will celebrate WE DAY 2023 through a local service project and a local celebration of that project.

WE DAY KY will provide the service-learning curriculum, some great ideas for projects and a very cool, step-by-step process to capture the impact through WE FILM FOR CHANGE. Each class that signs up will be entered to receive tons of great prizes, and the winning films will be showcased in a special, online event.

OUR MISSION

In 2012, Kris and Wendy Sirchio brought the WE Day Movement to Kentucky from its roots in Canada. WE.org, one of the world’s largest youth empowerment organizations was founded 25 years ago in Toronto by 12-year-old Craig Kielburger. WE Day Kentucky started with just six schools and 175 students celebrating their impact at the Muhammad Ali Center.

In 2017 WE Day Kentucky became the inaugural WE Day Community Celebration, paving the way for peer communities across the US to bring WE Day to students in their areas. We welcomed 2,400+ students to the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts from 83 counties across Kentucky and Southern Indiana! We are fortunate to have worked with a broad range of outstanding local partners, whose compassion and belief in the potential of youth to change our world have been crucial to helping us reach young people all across the Commonwealth! Thank you to all of you.

WE Day KY supports the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations and policies.

Mental Health

In any given year, 1 in 5 people will experience a mental health issue of some form. An estimated 70% of mental health problems have their onset during childhood or adolescence. WE Day KY celebrates change-makers that empower young people with tools and resources to promote their own well-being and the well-being of their community.

RACIAL JUSTICE

WE Day KY amplifies the voices of those doing the vital work of fighting for racial justice in our communities. Recent WE Day KY events have highlighted the impact of racial justice focused service projects and provided a platform for a diverse and inclusive list of speakers and performers. Racial Justice is one of the focus areas of Youth Voices KY, an outreach program sponsored by WE Day KY Youth Board.
